Chapter Twenty One

Rosalyn sat down on the padded bench in the lobby. Several people passed by pressed to the opposite wall of the church until they entered the main sanctuary without walking near her. Her foot tapped as she leaned her head back on the wall and closed her eyes. In Houston she never relaxed in public but here no one would dare bother her.

“How’s the baby?”

Rosalyn opened her eyes and fought the urge to throw something at Nurse Crawford. She raked her eyes over the woman head to toe and back. The nurse looked at the empty seat beside her. Rosalyn picked up her purse and held it in her lap.

“I really am sorry Rosalyn.” Nurse Crawford sat on the bench.

“Ms. Bell.”

“Are you serious?” Nurse Crawford slumped down in her seat. “After all of this time I hoped I could explain.”

“You told a bunch of fake busybodies my business and now no one at the church will talk to or touch me.” Rosalyn crossed her feet at the ankle. “Anything else?”
